Tom Bruno Magdich is a West End star turned communications consultant – and founder of the internationally successful training company 4D Human Being.
I first met Tom many years ago – early in my coaching career – when we both delivered sessions for a training company. But while I knew a little about Tom’s journey of ‘self’ discovery it’s only been very recently – in fact on the day of filming this interview itself – that I learned more about Tom’s fascinating career and business journey. As we spoke over coffee ahead of the workshop, and as Tom shared insight into his own experience in business and together with his deep insight into authentic communication, I realised that I just had to reach for my camera and record a short interview (even though I only had 15 minutes to get the interview recorded ahead of the Soul Trader event).
The key theme of this interview (to me) is communication, authenticity and integrity. These are core Soul Trader themes. How do you find your authentic self? How do you go on that journey? How do you actually find your unique path? How and where do you find the courage to start and stay on track? Can you be fully true to yourself and your values in business – and what might that journey involve?
One of the things I’ve always really liked about Tom – perhaps even more that his skills and magic as a trainer and his wonderfully passionate personality – is that he has been on a rich journey personally and professionally. It strikes me that he’s had the courage to try career paths, to put his hat in the ring, to follow his passions and talents and to dream …and – where needed – to start again. I like the the fact that on the one hand his career started – as many of ours did – with doing something that we kind of fall into. But I also like the fact he’s always asked himself the question about what is true to him and followed his passion.
During this interview I learned that Tom set up his first business in his early 20s. It was a journey that would – after a few twists and turns – take him into the world of singing and acting and on to the work he does now as a communications consultant.
I think what is also relevant here at Soul Trader is something that Tom talks about in this interview: Tom’s company 4D Human are a small but very successful company with clients and business across the world. In other words Tom is doing what he loves for a living working with people and companies that he chooses to work with and that courage, effort and authenticity has paid off.
I thought it would be great to share an interview with someone and a business that has combined success with real authenticity and integrity. I hope you enjoy the interview and I plan to record another interview with Tom where perhaps we talk about communications and personal impact in more depth as they can make all the difference in a small business and sole trader practice.
